Arcadia, California is a relatively small town of 56,364 people; however, its fame exceeds its population, for several reasons.  To start from the beginning, the original inhabitants of the area were Native Americans Indians.  Many current Californian metropolitan areas began as small settlements of Native Americans, picked for their ideal nearby resources.  Unlike some modern towns, Arcadia’s original demographics can still be found in the area; the Tongva Indian tribe in particular still actively thrives.

Much of Arcadia’s fame originated during the World War eras.  The Army’s Ross Field Balloon School was constructed in Arcadia during world war one, its purpose was to train students how to monitor enemy movements from a hot air balloon.  This school started the ever-increasing interest in the small city.  Following the First World War the population and economy sharply increased; this increase paved the path for the future residential city it was to become.

Yet again in the next World War, Arcadia was the center for much attention.  The Santa Anita Park racetrack became the largest Japanese American assembly location in the entire United States.  President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066 interned Japanese Americans, this was one such example.
