The city of Blythe was named after Thomas Blythe in honor of his vigilant campaign to establish water rights in 1877 for the inhabitants of the  area to water flowing from the Colorado River. Located in California in Riverside County with a population of just over 12,000 people, the city lies in the metropolitan area of San Bernardino.

For education, the city has two high schools and one tertiary institution. The two high schools combined total 991 students in attendance while the college enrolls over 2000 students each year and is situated on 200 acres of land. Blythe's tertiary institution, Palo Verde College, boasts a student body that averages over 40 years of age, most of them being males.
