Junk Yards in El segundo, California

Originally, part of a larger 25,000-acre ranch called the Ranch of the Round Clump Willows, the city of El Segundo began in May 1911 based on the efforts of one company and five men. That company was Standard Oil, and under the guidance of Richard Hanna, J. Howell, John Black, Williams Rheem, and Henry Foster, it bought 840-acres as a site for their business efforts. What drew them to the land was its proximity to the sea, which would facilitate their oil tankers and its cheap price since the area itself had not yet had any significant development. Its distance from other population centers meant the oil operation could go untroubled, but still be a source of employees. The small oil town eventually got its name from the wife of Richard Hanna, who christened the new acquisition El Segundo, or in English,the second one.

The official date of El Segundo’s birth was its incorporation as a city on January 18^th, 1917. The next big change came in 1930 when it became the site for the LA International Airport. The addition of the airport led to a huge influx of aerospace companies like Northrop, and enough others to give the city the title of The Aerospace Capital of the World.

With both oil and aircraft industries, the current population of El Segundo, 16,500 poeple, enjoys above-average economic numbers for the state of California.  One of the most telling statistics is that 92% of employed citizens drive. This offers enough of a customer base for a business such as an El Segundo auto parts store. Much like the founders, the city with its large expanses of open land, proximity to Los Angeles, access to both air and sea freight make it a good location for El Segundo salvage yards and El Segundo junk yards.
