It would seem from the beginning that Emeryville adhered to one of real estate’s primary rules, that being, location is everything. This city of only one square mile sits in the middle of an economic zone that allows it to thrive to this day. Originally inhabited by the Spanish in 1776, the gold rush of the 1800s eventually led to a take over by an American population. Then in 1896, Emeryville found itself incorporated to counter a push by the surrounding city of Oakland to annex it.

A large part of the success of Emeryville comes from its strategic positioning as an industrial transportation centre, something that continues to this day. Located on San Francisco Bay across from the Golden Gate Bridge, and between the cities of Oakland and Berkeley, Emeryville sees the convergence of several major transportation types. From shipping, to railroad, to ground transport, all have access as far north as Seattle, and as far east as Chicago. As if to punctuate the point, Emeryville is home to California’s fifth busiest Amtrak station and with over 500,000 passengers, per annum, it enjoys a similar rank nationwide.

Emeryville’s attractions reflect its small size and affluence, as despite large industries there is focus on the arts and green spaces. Museums are aplenty, as well as parks like Paradise Beach and East Shore. Several nature reserves and a Zoo are also on hand.

With all that in mind, Emeryville salvage yards and even Emeryville auto parts would not appear as good business types for the area. This is largely due to the amount of land space required, and the fact that the city is small with more than enough public modes of transportation reducing the customer base for auto parts related services. There could also be the argument that Emeryville junk yards would not fit into the ascetic of the community.
