Geography of Goleta

Goleta is 13 km from Santa Barbara along the coast of California. It is at the base of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It is close to the U.S. Route 101 and the California State Highway 154. There is a railway running through the area, built in the 20th century by the Southern Pacific Railroad. Goleta also housed a navy base which was once the local airport before World War II. After the war it functioned as an airport which now serves the city.
