The city of Hanford is located in Kings County, and it is the main city in the county. It is located 29 miles from Fresno and is near to San Joaquin. The city enjoys cool winters and very hot summers. It boasts a noticeable Latino and Chinese population. It is thought to be a vital commercial and cultural hub for the San Joaquin Valley. The city was first inhabited by Indians and was named after a railway executive naneded James Hanford. The city serves as an important hub in training for the nearby agricultural communities. The employment statistics in 2007 revealed that about 29,000 people were employed in service industries, 14,000 in government, 7,600 in farming and 3,400 in manufacturing enterprises. There has been a steady decline in the industries sector within the last two and a half decades. There are, however, recent signs that the local economy is on the rebound, with the building and expansion of some new manufacturing enterprises.
