Lompoc is in Santa Barbara County, California. The city is 21 miles south of Santa Maria and 132 miles west of Los Angeles. Tourism, wine production, seed flowers, vegetables, and the earth mine are defining features of the city’s economy. Vandenberg Air Force Base is situated in this beautiful city.

History

In 1787 the religious group, Mission La Purisma Concepcion, found the area.  However, the first inhabitants of the area were the Chumash Indians.  Lompoc was finally given city status in 1888. In the early part of 1958, the city saw massive development due to the work of US Air Force in building the Vandenburg Air Force Base. A large number of houses were built for workers constructing the military base.

Attractions

The most notable event for Lompoc is the Santa Barbara County Vintners Festival. The city has a lot of ancient murals illustrating aspects of its rich history. The Fabing Mckay-Spanne House is a popular historical site. There is also the Lompoc Museum which houses murals and archaeological evidence of the city’s history. There is also the Olde Towne Market which has a host of attractive art work and live entertainment for tourists.
