Junk Yards in Monrovia, California

The city of Monrovia finds its beginnings in 1841 at the hands of Governor Alverado of California. His division of two ranchos, Rancho Azusa de Duarte and Rancho Santa Anita, would set things in motion for William Monroe to discover Monrovia. Monroe moved with his family to the area during 1875 on the advice of Charles Crocker, who wanted his railroad expertise. For three years, starting in 1879, Monroe was a member of the Los Angeles City Council, but had his service interrupted by a lucrative project in Texas. Upon completion in 1884 he returned with a small fortune that after a long search gained him 240-acres at a cost of $30,000. The land purchased, which would eventually become Monrovia, was a combination of subdivisions from the two ranchos.  The Monroe family in 1885 had fully settled the land. As fate would have it, the location became a popular gateway for travelers moving from the city of Los Angeles to San Bernardino, and vice-versa. William Monroe and three of his friends combined their finances, seized upon the opportunity and established Monrovia also known as the Gem City of the Foothills.

Modern day Monrovia hasn’t grown much, but it’s still integrated into the California economic landscape. Just like the travelers of old that enjoyed the city’s prime location, there is a new path, that of the East Huntington Drive technology corridor hosting several major high-tech firms like SunMicrosystems. Activities in Monrovia are limited to basic outdoor recreation.

With such a focus on science and nature, the relatively low-tech business operations of Monrovia salvage yards, or Monrovia junk yards, could fill a niche in its local industry. Also, the small size of the population might be daunting to a supplier of Monrovia auto parts but the city itself is one built upon a history of external traffic increasing the potential customer base.
