The beautiful community of Northridge is located in the Valley of San Fernando and covers 17 square miles in area. It rises above the sea at 807 ft, and in 2009, the census of the community was 57,561.  

There is a mixed racial community in Northridge. The area was planted with much produce such as citrus, corn, wheat, apricots, beans and tomatoes. This continued until the early part of 1940. There was also a prosperous trade involving chickens and cattle.

Over the years, farming in the community has been replaced by such industries as a hospital, a university and a fashion center. In the 1950s, housing began to develop in the area.

Some of the citizens living in Northridge are employed by the Northridge Hospital and Northridge Fashion Center. The home of the U.S Metric Association has its home in Northridge and the company provides work for citizens there. The largest provider of work in the community however is the CSUN campus. 

With the building of the hospital in 1955, the citizens had access to 49 beds and a single room emergency area at that time. Today, the hospital provides 411 beds to patients and serves an additional 2 million people in the region. During the earthquake of 1944, which measured a magnitude of 6.7, the medical facility was able to treat over 1,000 people for injuries sustained. 

There are some automobile sales outlets situated in the community of Northridge. These are the Northridge junk yards, Northridge salvage yards and Northridge auto parts and they all combine to provide auto parts to automobile owners. For those people seeking to buy used engines, they should require from the salesperson the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) so that they can do a history trace on the previous vehicle it is taken from. Reasons for a history trace is because the used engine might have been flooded or involved in an accident and the insurance company might heve written it off. In addtion, having one's mechanic present when buying a used engine is a sure way of avoiding getting scammed by unreasonable dealers. A buyer of a used engine should avoid buying from an independent seller to ensure getting a reasonable warranty.       

For recreational purposes, the Northridge Recreational Center provides activities for the residents. Although the center has an outdoor gymnasium, many people use it as an auditorium. In addition, in the park are barbeque pits, a baseball field, a number of indoor basketball courts, picnic tables, a football field and other amenities.

With so many things going for Northridge, no wonder that the community is growing. People can take advantage of facilities that the community has to offer.
